Staff were very pushy and gave me the wrong pricing. acted like they were giving me a deal and come to find out later it was a total rip off and i got charged nearly double what the retail price was. felt very uncomfortable for the whole experience, i do not recommend this shop.

I was looking for a beginner acoustic guitar for my 9-year old son who has been playing electric guitar for about a year and a half. my son has never strummed an acoustic guitar before so i did not mind the employee giving tips regarding how to strum, but the employee said incredibly rude things (in front of my son) commenting on the quality and cost of my son's guitar instruction. he proceeded to give him a mini-lesson (that we didn't ask for) and then became visibly frustrated with my son during this mini-lesson (that we didn't ask for). we did not buy anything and will not return. there are plenty of options for buying guitars in this area, likely several with better customer service.

I found exactly what i was looking for in this great little music shop, and the two owners were knowledgeable, helpful, and well-versed in the world of music. it was a pleasure to shop here, and i would certainly recommend them!

I enjoyed an excellent experience buying a digital piano at main street music. i am super happy with the piano -- the brand i purchased, dexibell, is in equal parts obscure and fantastic. i found the principals to be helpful and generous with their time -- among other things, they made me aware of the dexibell -- and i did not feel at all pushed or pressured. i see that some of the reviews here on google are unkind, and so i want to point out: the store principals are musicians from the '60s, which was a different era and a different culture. stepping into this store, tumbled over with pianos and headsets and cables and bric-a-brac, is like stepping into the back room of what i imagine to be a beatles confab circa 1972. if you step back and take a look, it's wonderful. i think these guys just tell it the way they see it, free of modern-day pretense. i would say, enjoy the experience, enjoy the nyc wise-guy cracks, and seek out hidden treasures.
