Please see what some of our customers are saying about us!
It went quite well overall. we had considered a few different window companies (tailor made, guardian, magic), but leaned towards dand w because their manufacturing facility is local (davison), and we like to support local, made-in-usa manufacturing. we purchased our home new in 1998, and 3 of the windows leaked whenever it rained. the original windows are what we called "builder-quality", or otherwise, the cheapest junk the builder could find when the home was built. we were looking for the "smartest" windows we could find (appearance + energy efficiency + warranty, all divided by price). energy efficiency was big on the list, and we had seen the "where's the foam?!?" commercials on tv, which made dand w windows an interesting candidate. if we weren't on a budget, we probably would have went with tailor made out of detroit (triple-pane with built-in shades between the panes, lowest u-factor you can find), but we do live on a budget. my wife went to their factory showroom in the spring, and not long after, we had someone come out to the house for an estimate. dand w sent one of their sales persons, phil, out to our house. we really liked phil; he was genuine, wasn't pushy, and he had good technical knowledge of the windows (i'm very technically-based). the price he quoted was below our budget, so we opted for dand w's beautiful v-groove etched glass for our sliding-glass door. almond vinyl frames. 10 double-hung, 2 sliders. screens were included in the quote. one of the dand w owners, i think it it was dave (from the commercial), came out to get final measurements (i wasn't home at the time, but my wife was, and she said he was nice, polite, and efficient, and took extra time to ask if there were any questions or desired changes before the installation was scheduled). dand w sub-contracts their installers, but they have a unique contract with their installers, which means a dand w installer cannot install windows for other companies. it made the relationship between the subcontracted installer and dand w close enough to make us comfortable. the installers were mark and adam. they knocked out all 12 windows and the sliding door in one long, hot summer day (we left the a/c cranking for them, which i would encourage you to do also if it is hot outside). one guy on the outside, one on the inside; they had a system. the installation looks good; everything is square (and i'm particular). they cleaned up every single scrap when they were finished. couldn't tell they had been there when they left. i changed out some of the trim on the inside of two windows and found the foam insulation (which is applied around the outside permitter of the window when it is installed) to have good, but not great penetration. there were no gaps or anything that severe, but there was room to pack in a little more foam insulation, at least on those two windows. the windows have been in for 8 months; there have been zero issues and we are quite happy with the windows. the 2011/2012 winter was mild, so we didn't really get a good comparison of the improvement in energy efficiency relative to the original windows. however, it's worthwhile to note that had the lowest natural gas consumption of the 13 years we've been in the house. likely a combination of the windows and the mild winter. the sliding glass door with its etched v-groove is very nice, and gets noticed (positive comments from visitors). nothing is perfect, so the only thing we can complain about is the noise abatement. we were expecting a significant reduction in outside noise penetration into the house (it's an advertised attribute of their windows), but it doesn't seem to be incredibly better. don't get me wrong, the noise reduction is a little better, but the birds still wake us up in the morning. nearly two years in and no issues and no complaints. absolutely recommend dand w for windows and stand behind my "a" rating for them. i give angie's list a "d" rating for their continuous spam-like e-mails indicating that i haven't completed my review of dand w. description of work: we had 12 windows (full house) and one sliding-glass door removed and replaced with "hr4 energy package" windows.

. we talked to someone in the showroom for prices for a new picture window and to replace our front door and screen door. the gentleman helped us to choose what would best work for us and sat down with us on the estimates for the job. someone came out to the house about a week later to make sure that all the measurements were correct. the guys came out a few weeks later to install the doors and window. they did have the wrong door, but asked if we wanted to wait for the correct one or take the one that was on the truck. we opted to go ahead and take the one they had. the guys made sure that they didn't make a big mess and cleaned up before they left. we wouldn't hesitate to go back to them again if and when we need any windows. description of work: we needed our picture window replaced as well as the front door and screen door.
