A caring honest team of professionals. It was such a relief to have my loved one's home completely emptied.
I hired Caring Transitions to sell household items after my spouse passed away. It was not a full house estate sale, more of a decluttering sale. The employees who reported to my house to sort, organize, take photos, post lots for CT Bids, and ultimately return for pick up and ship day were professional, communicative, detail oriented, empathetic, sensitive, kind, trustworthy, and respectful of handling personal effects being sold as well as avoidance of items and spaces not included in the sale. Overall, I was able to profit from the sale and clear out space in my home. The only reason I am not offering five stars is I had multiple issues with the owner omitting critical information/communication prior to the sale and underestimating the number of employees needed at both the sorting/organizing/photo day and the pick up day. The owner only sent 2 employees for the first in-home day. While they worked non-stop and appeared thorough and efficient, the work clearly required a 3rd employee. They had to extend their time at the house the first day, added a second day (again with only two employees) and had to extend their time at the house the second day, too. They were rushing at the end of the second day to get as many items posted as possible, but ran out of time. Therefore, some items were never posted and two lots were evidently posted but “glitched” and were not posted on the CT Bids site during the 7 day auction. During both the sort/organize day and pick up, I pitched in to help to make the process go smoother since they were short a 3rd employee. I also offered for them to use my own supplies (trash bags, totes, and bins) that the company did not provide to their employees. Furthermore, the owner told me the only people who would enter the house would be those picking up furniture. On pick up day, the employees were under the impression all picks would be in house. At my insistence, they accommodated the change to only people picking up large/heavy items to be permitted into the house. This is yet another example of miscommunication on the part of the owner. I discovered only after the pick up day ended that I could have set a reasonable reserve price on high value items. I was disappointed when high ticket items worth hundreds of dollars sold for less than $20 (some for less than $10) such as a wedding dress, small appliances, and electronics. I was also not informed I was allowed to bid myself (wrongly assuming it was forbidden) to set a starting bid. I was not informed as to how many hours pick up day would run, only the time when they would arrive in the morning; it ended up being a six hour process. When I received my final invoice, I was also surprised to be charged a 4% credit card/PayPal fee totaling nearly $200. The company offers a good service and the owner and employees are honest and hard working. However, I felt there was a significant underestimation of the contents being sold leading to understaffing (two employees all three days instead of three), and a gross lack of clear communication both verbally and in writing (emails and contract). I will say that I initially gave them 3 stars, but came back to revise after my initial review (above) because the owner offered to listen to my concerns via a phone call. He was extremely receptive to the point where he reimbursed my credit card fee and said he would relay some of my suggestions to the corporate office to support better experiences for clients in the future. The follow through on customer service was commendable.
This was the best decision we could have made. From start to finish Billy the team worked to help us,guide us, and were so compassionate and caring.
Caring Transitions did an outstanding job helping our family with a home cleanout and estate sale. From the very beginning, Billy was thoughtful and respectful of our situation, taking the time to walk through the home with us and guide us through the planning process. We were extremely pleased with the online CTBids estate sale platform and the team did a great job with the identification and photography of the items. The final payout check arrived quickly as well. A few scheduling hiccups came up on our end along the way, but Billy went above and beyond to handle everything smoothly and professionally. He was always prompt in answering texts and calls, which meant a lot since we were coordinating everything from out of state. We truly appreciate the care and professionalism the team showed, and we highly recommend Caring Transitions to anyone needing their support.
